Naturally Help Our Young Ones

Updated: Jul 6, 2019

Is it a worrying fact that 1 in 4 of us experience mental illness in any given year or more concerning that 75% of adult mental health problems begin before the age of 18? How do we turn the tide on this Pandemic?

The most recent surveys of child and adolescent mental health have shown that in an average school classroom of 30 young people, 3 will have a diagnosable mental health condition.

We know that long waiting times and unequal access to young people’s mental health services are putting lives at risk and emergency services are handling more mental health cases all the time. It’s a sad reflection of where we are, that people are in crises before they get the support they need.

What is available out there which does not involve potential side effects or dependency forming reliance on prescription drugs?

Homeopathy is the use of highly diluted remedies from plant, animal and mineral sources to gently stimulate the individuals natural healing response. For example, Aconite or Wolfsbane is a Ranunculaceae plant, it is poisonous and if consumed in its raw toxic state it causes sweating, a feeling of imminent death or doom, nausea, palpitations and difficulty breathing. These symptoms will be easily recognised by those experiencing a panic attack.

Aconitum Napellus

Homeopathy takes the Aconite and through crushing and succussion (shaking vigorously) sometimes up to a hundred times until it no longer poses a threat but now holds a natural stimulating quality which when taken at the onset of a panic switches the body’s natural responses on and decreases the anxiety attack.

This is one extreme acute example, but Homeopathy also takes great care to examine the person holistically and pick away at their qualities, character, history and any Iatrogenic influence (caused by conventional medicines or surgeries).

Homeopathy can also assist with improving concentration, restlessness and tantrums. Parents will often be familiar with these problems in the extremes of a child’s life such as the toddler years and teenage transition years. The leaps made in cognitive and growth rates can produce irritation and stress on the bodies nervous system. Homeopathy can alleviate this in a gentle way allowing the body the time it needs to adapt to the new changes.

Homeopathy can help with the fight against mood swings, anxiety and depression

At this time as a society we have through research and reflection recognised that we have a huge problem with mental health decline especially amongst our children and teens. Unfortunately, the government has yet failed to produce a robust sustainable model of assistance and is failing our youngsters.

Complementary Alternative medicine and approaches such as Homeopathy, mindfulness, Cognitive Behavioural therapy, acupuncture and others are a real option for parents who have failed to access help or have tried the drugs, diagnostics and therapies offered and are still at a loss.

As always, it is essential to keep healthcare providers in the loop when using CAM therapies with children, particularly with those who have a medical or psychological illness.
